Bassett

Bassett is the county seat of Rock County. It’s post office was established in 1882 and the railroad accessed this area beginning in 1881. A surge of immigration began in earnest by 1882. Bassett was at first part of Brown County until the organization of Rock County in 1888. It became the County Seat officially in 1890. The first store was established by Mr. Ryan north of the railroad tracks. School began in 1883 in the home of Mr. Canenburg. Although population has varied over the last 100 years, the people of Bassett have always had great pride in their small town values.
